Seven Kingdoms:Ancient Adversaries Short
Released in 1998 Seven Kingdoms:Ancient Adversaries is an historical RTS that struggled to compete against the genre defining Age of Empires franchise. Although it never got the same reception as it's rival, Seven Kingdoms built up a decent following over time.
As a King it is your objective to secure resources and new towns in order to build your nation. Trade, diplomacy, military and espionage play a major part in your success as all these factors can affect loyalty of your people and the resistance of those you wish to rule.
The game has no campaign but it does offer a large number of scenarios in it's place. Each of these scenarios can build up a players skill and help with some of the nuances of the game. Skirmish and multiplayer matches are also available where you can face off against up to 6 enemies.
There are a few issues. It's not as polished as some of its rivals, AI enemies can be exploited and there's no description boxes in multiplayer. This is an entertaining game though. Balancing the needs of a multi race empire whilst fighting off others is enjoyable and tweaking your strategy from lessons learned is quite rewarding.
