Tyrian 2000 Short

Released in 1999. Tyrian 2000 was a re-release of the 1995 game Tyrian, with an additional episode, new ships and windows support. It just goes to show that the remaster isn't a new concept.

This scrolling shooter has you pilot your fighter through dozens of levels divided into 5 episodes. Each level is different with obstacles and enemies that provide their own unique challenges. In fact I found death inevitable. Certain challenges could only be overcome after the second or third play through. Combat is hectic, and I found myself losing track of my ship amidst the enemy and my own fire.

There is a great amount of customisation. You can upgrade you ship, power and weapons but are limited by the amount of credits you earn each level.

You play the role of Trent Hawkins. An ace pilot, who's friend was murdered by the Microsol corporation in a cover up. This intro is in the manual only so it felt like I skipped a few pages at the start. In game data cube can be found to discover more about the galaxy you inhabit.

It's a entertaining game with a few hours of play time but it is designed to be replayed so you can find all datacubes or beat your last high score.
