The Legend of Zelda:Mystery of Solarus Short
Released in 2002, The Legend of Zelda:Mystery of Solarus was re-released in 2011 using the Solarus engine and the DX identifier. A fan made project, the game is meant to be treated as an unofficial sequel to A Link to the Past.
The creator has done everything they can to remind you of the predecessor. Recreating assets such as scenery, obstacles and items to appear almost identical to ignite that nostalgic feeling in fans.
Many of the same weapons are here too with Bombs, Bow and Boomerang available and nearly all are required in order to progress. Dungeons are challenging, sometimes unfairly so and can take a lot of time to work out the correct tool to progress. Outsmarting a tough dungeon puzzle can be it's own reward though.
Standard enemies hitpoints and design can vary but most can be beaten with a sword/chain combination. The bosses are a lot more interesting. Each has a unique method of dispatching them and are often extremely dangerous.
My biggest issue with the game is that outside a dungeon it isn't always clear where to go. There are some occasional hints but more than once I have had to resort to the walk-through to know where to go next.
